SEU’s International Students’ Team won the first place in disc golf, the fourth place in the International Youth Men's 3X3 Basketball Tournament, and Best Team Award for Outdoor Challenge in the Event of The “Belt and Road” Youth Sports Exchange Week (Jiangsu)!
From December 2nd to 8th, The “Belt and Road” Youth Sports Exchange Week (Jiangsu) was successfully held in Nanjing under the guidance of the Office of "Belt and Road" in Jiangsu Province, and was jointly sponsored by the Jiangsu Provincial Sports Bureau, Jiangsu Provincial Foreign Affairs Office, and Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education, and undertaken by Jiangsu International Sports Exchange Center. The theme of this exchange week is "Sports with Passion, Soaring Youth Dream, Carry Forward the Spirit of Silk Road to Build a Better Future". This event attracted 209 international students from 62 countries and regions along the "Belt and Road" who have been working and studying in Nanjing.
Lots of sports events and activities were carried out during the exchange week, including the 2021 “Belt and Road” International Men’s 3X3 Basketball Invitational Tournament, the “Belt and Road” Youth Outdoor Challenge, the Fifth “Belt and Road” International Youth Orienteering Training Camp and a series of youth sports and cultural exchange activities. Representatives of international students from our university attended the opening ceremony and participated in the 2021 “Belt and Road” International Youth Men’s 3X3 Basketball Invitational Tournament and the “Belt and Road” Youth Outdoor Challenge.
On December 5th, the inspector of the Jiangsu Provincial Sports Bureau—Jinhua Fan and the vice chairman of the Jiangsu Sports Federation, and the heads of other departments such as the Jiangsu Provincial Development and Reform Commission, the Provincial Department of Education, and the Provincial Foreign Affairs Office attended the opening ceremony of the exchange week. The Consul General of Indonesia in Shanghai—Ning Dai sent a video speech, hoping to provide a platform for sports exhibitions and cultural education for international youth through this event, build a bridge of communication and cooperation, and further promote and strengthen the unity, friendship and cooperation between all parties. Muhammetaly Atagarryyev, an international student from SEU, made a speech at the opening ceremony as an international youth representative of the countries along the “Belt and Road”. He thanked the organizer for the valuable opportunity to meet international students from different countries, enhance friendship and understanding of each other. He also shared his understanding of the “Belt and Road”. He believes that the “Belt and Road” is a project that will change the world and the future. It can bring opportunities to many developing countries. He hopes to contribute to the prosperity and development of the “Belt and Road”.
In this event, the international students of our university worked hard and cooperated, and fully carried sportsmanship. All students worked together and successfully completed the tasks of the activity. Among them, Asikia Leonaitasi from Tonga of SEU was interviewed by Jiangsu Public News Channel, and Walid Albakir from Syria was interviewed by Jiangsu Sports Channel to share their feelings and experiences of participating in this event.
The activities of this exchange week enriched sports and cultural life of SEU international students. In the activities, the Chinese and foreign youth representatives not only communicate and learn from each other, displayed faster, higher and stronger sportsmanship, but also experienced the unique history of Jiangsu culture and local customs and it will further enhance the trust and friendship among the youth of the “Belt and Road” countries.
