The JGS & Its Parent Universities

Southeast University-Monash University Joint Graduate School Suzhou (JGS), approved by the Chinese Ministry of Education in 2012 (approval number: MOE32AUA02DNR20121197N), is now the 1^st and only Sino-foreign cooperative institution in China to offer world-competitive English instructed graduate programs. The students who complete the two-year double master’s programs receive degrees from both Southeast University and Monash University.

Both Southeast University (SEU) and Monash University (Monash) are recognised as among the leading universities in China and Australia with a national and international reputation for research and teaching excellence (Monash ranked consistently among the top 100 universities in the world).

The JGS is complemented by a Joint Research Institute (JRI) established to conduct multi-disciplinary research projects. The emphasis will be on areas of strategic importance to today’s industry, including nanotechnology, bioinformatics, water, energy and light metals that reflect the two universities’ world-recognized strengths in engineering, health and science.

With more than 500 students enrolled in 2015, it’s anticipated that a broad range of master’s (up to 12) programs in disciplines from economics to engineering will be offered in the JGS as the partnership between the two universities evolves and strengthens.

Recent survey shows a high job satisfaction of the 1^st and 2^nd cohorts of about 100 graduates. 91% of them feel “better than expected” about their first job or further education settlement.

Location

Backed by well-developed infrastructure, community services and beautiful surroundings, a 43,000-square-metre building that houses the JGS and JRI has cutting-edge facilities in Dushuhu Higher Education and Innovation Zone, Suzhou Industrial Park.

The Suzhou Industrial Park (SIP) – is one of the largest innovation precincts in China and recognized as one of the world's most dynamic places for turning clever research into valuable industrial processes and products. It's a hub of 21st century brainpower for more than 100 Fortune 500 companies and 15 international universities and research institutes. And all just half an hour by high speed train from Shanghai. 

Programs Offered

5 master’s degree programs: Industrial Design Engineering, Computer Technology, Transportation Engineering, International Business, and Translation (English translation and English interpretation).

Each of the above programs recruits up to 5 international students to study together with the Chinese students selected from the writers of the National Graduate School Entrance Examination.

Eligibility

The applicant must be a bachelor’s (or higher) degree holder of a relevant or related program from an accredited college or university in the world, and also demonstrates passion and commitment to the field study applied for.

The applicants must satisfy one of the following language equivalents:

● Graduates from universities of English-speaking countries

● Graduates from universities where English is the official language.

●TOEFL: 84 (internet-based test) / IELTS: 6.5

Scholarship

Scholarships up to CNY40000 per year are available for outstanding applicants.

●A copy of bachelor’s certificate (original or notarized Chinese/English translation)

●A copy of official transcripts (original or notarized Chinese/English translation)

●A copy of TOEFL or IELTS’ score report (required for those whose mother language and official language are not English)

● A copy of passport

● Two recommendation letters

● Research Proposal (no less than 800 words)

● Address Form (The information you write in this form is very important; if you're admitted, all the admission document will be posted to the address you write in this form.)

*If you are to obtain the higher level of degree before this September, you may provide the official document to prove that.

Fees & Expenses

Application Fee: CNY400

Master’s Program Tuition (CNY/academic year):

Industrial design engineering: 58,000; Computer technology: 50,000; Transportation engineering: 50,000

International business: 60,000; Translation (English translation and interpretation): 40,000

Annual Accommodation Fee: CNY 21600[One bedroom in a quadruple occupancy suit]

Or CNY 2800 [One bed in a double occupancy room]

Insurance Fee: CNY 800
