Chinese Opera

1. The Nature and Objectives of the Course

Chinese Opera is a compulsory course for international students. The objective of the course is to offer the students opportunities to experience the performance and charm of Chinese opera. The teaching methods will include lectures, demonstrations, video and performance appreciation, learning in acting, etc. The participant students will learn the characteristics of Chinese opera, and how to appreciate its artistic features, aesthetic value and cultural meaning. By making students know more about Chinese opera and like it more, the course will deepen their understanding of Chinese Culture and Art.

2. Course Content

Lesson 1: costumes and make-up of different roles in Chinese opera

Lesson 2: singing and chanting in Chinese opera

Lesson 3: performance of Chinese opera

Lesson 4: appreciating opera performances

3. Requirements of the Course

1). Cognitive Ability: knowing the common sense of Chinese opera, improving the ability of appreciating Chinese traditional arts;

2). Appreciative Ability: being equipped with the ability of appreciating Chinese opera.

Final Grade=Average Grade (30%)+ Final Exam Grade(70%)

中国戏曲

一、课程的性质与目的

本课程是面向海外留学生的必修课程。开设这门课程的目的是，让外国学生有机会亲身领略戏曲的表演形式，感受戏曲独有的魅力。本课程采用讲授和现场示范、观看录像、观摩演出、表演学习等形式相结合的方法，介绍中国戏曲的特点和品赏方法，教会学生如何欣赏戏曲艺术，认识戏曲的艺术特点、审美价值、文化意义，引领学生了解戏曲、关注戏曲、喜欢戏曲，从而加深对中国文化艺术的了解和感受。

二、课程内容的教学要求

第一讲传神写意——戏曲的造型（行当、服装、化妆）

第二讲有声必歌——戏曲的唱念

第三讲无动不舞——戏曲的表演

第四讲戏曲演出观摩

三、能力培养的要求

1. 认识能力的培养：主要要求学生认识戏曲艺术的一般常识，从而提高对中国传统艺术的审美情趣。

2. 欣赏能力的培养：要求学生通过本课程的学习，具备对中国戏曲艺术欣赏的能力。
