To further cultivate international students' self-education, self-management, and self-service ability, let international students play their role in cultural exchange, encourage international students to share their life in China and Southeast University, and to promote the publicity work of the University and College of International Students, on December 1st of 2021, the College of International Students of Southeast University held an appointment ceremony for new international student ambassadors and the reporters team. In attendance were respectable Mrs. Zhang Ying, the Deputy Dean of the College of International Students, Mrs. Yin Guo, the Director of International Student Affairs Office, and three international student counselors.
Through self-application and department selection, 14 students were selected from ten different countries including Sierra Leone, Pakistan, East Timor, Turkmenistan, Bangladesh, Senegal, Kazakhstan, Jordan, Namibia, who make up an excellent team of international student ambassadors and the team of reporters in the year followed.
During the ceremony, Mrs. Zhang Ying, the Deputy Dean of College of International Students welcomed the students and congratulated them on their achievements thus far. She highlighted three key aspects that the students should pay attention to. First, to set up a positive example for other students by doing a good job while serving international students in Southeast University, maintaining the sense of responsibility and being a bridge between all the international students and College of International Students. Second, clarify their responsibilities and assist international student counselors and other teachers to actively carry out various tasks and activities. Last, be ambitious, and become the activator of cultural exchanges between Chinese and international students.
Then Song Tiancheng, the representative of the previous international student ambassador, shared his work experience. He said that being an international student ambassador is a good opportunity. International students can show themselves through this platform, meanwhile helping others and he encouraged new members to communicate with previous members and continue to do meaningful things.
New international student ambassador Isaac and a member of the reporters’ team Rosalia also shared their feelings. Isaac said that becoming an international student ambassador is a new challenge for him. But he will take this huge responsibility and try his best to serve the international students with different cultural backgrounds. Rosalia said that the reporters’ team is a platform which will unite the international students. Also, she highlighted that the members should take the responsibility of presenting and promoting Southeast University with various creativities to show everyone the demeanor of Southeast University's international students.
Then, Mrs. Zhang Ying, the Deputy Dean of the College of International Students, issued letters of appointment to the new international student ambassadors and members of the reporters’ team.
At last, Mrs. Yin Guo, Director of the International Students Affairs Office, highlighted the job responsibilities and management regulations. She encouraged all recruited students to continue to show their good attitude, play a role as a link, and show their demeanor.
The international student ambassadors and the reporters’ team, under the leadership of College of International Students, have actively undertaken all kinds of culture promotion and publicity work since their establishment. We believe that the new team will also fully play their strengths to serve the international students and achieve fruitful results in the future.
